Kate Hudson is embracing aging with confidence and humor, saying she actually “loves” getting older and believes she will “be a great old person.”

The 47-year-old actress made the comments during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, April 23, where she was promoting season 2 of Running Point. Host Jimmy Fallon wished her a belated happy birthday after she turned 47 on April 19.

“I’m so old,” Hudson joked at first, before quickly adding that she enjoys the process of aging. “I love it. I really think I’m going to be a great old person… because it gets better, so you don’t have to care as much.”

Fallon laughed off her self-description, but Hudson doubled down on her perspective, saying aging brings a sense of freedom and ease.

When asked how she marked her birthday, Hudson said she opted for a relaxed celebration rather than a traditional party.

“I had a crawfish boil,” she said, describing a casual gathering featuring food, music, and friends. She also mentioned enjoying a beignet cake, calling the experience “the best.”

Hudson described the event as laid-back and festive, saying it included classic Louisiana-style food like corn, sausage, and potatoes.

The actress also reflected on her broader approach to life, saying she enjoys periods of discipline but also values letting go and simply enjoying herself.

Earlier this year, Hudson revealed she intentionally gained weight for her role in Song Sung Blue, explaining that she embraced a more relaxed lifestyle during filming, including stepping back from strict fitness and skincare routines.

“I just let myself be and enjoyed life,” she said in a previous interview, noting that balance remains important to her.

Hudson is a mother of three children: Ryder, 22, Bingham, 14, and Rani, 7, and has often spoken about how motherhood shapes her outlook on life and aging.
