Tom Holland has opened up about his sobriety journey, growing social life, and the unexpected ripple effects his lifestyle change has had on both his career and friendships.

The 29-year-old actor spoke to USA Today about his transformation while hosting the BERO Padel Classic in Los Angeles on April 29, an alcohol-free sporting event tied to his non-alcoholic beer and wellness brand BERO.

Held at Pura Padel, the event brought together celebrities and athletes for a friendly padel tournament, a sport blending tennis and squash in a deliberately sober environment.

Holland, who co-hosted and participated in the event, was also joined by his fiancée Zendaya, who attended in support.

Holland has been open about his decision to quit alcohol after recognizing he had developed a problematic relationship with drinking.

He said the change began during a Dry January challenge in 2022, which gradually evolved into a permanent sober lifestyle.

Reflecting on the shift, Holland said sobriety has had a profound impact on his mental clarity, confidence, and overall well-being.

He described alcohol as something that previously interfered with both his personal and professional life, particularly given the pressures of working in the public eye.

Since embracing sobriety, Holland’s career has continued to grow, with major film projects, brand partnerships, and a producing deal with Sony.

He is also set to return to the screen alongside Zendaya in the upcoming release Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

While he acknowledged that it is difficult to measure how much his sobriety directly influenced his success, Holland said he feels fortunate with how his life and career have developed in recent years.

Beyond his personal journey, the actor also highlighted a broader cultural shift, noting that Gen Z appears to be drinking less than previous generations.

Tom suggested the trend could reflect a growing interest in health, wellness, and more mindful social experiences.

The actor emphasized that he does not judge those who choose to drink but expressed support for alternatives that promote community and balance.

He also shared how his own social life has changed significantly. According to Holland, gatherings with friends that once revolved around alcohol are now fully sober, with guests remaining more present and engaged.

“I just love what it’s done for my life in general,” he said, describing a lifestyle that now prioritizes clarity, connection, and long-term well-being.
