Donald Trump expressed admiration for royal family after welcoming King and Queen to White House
President Donald Trump expressed admiration for the royal family after welcoming the King and Queen to the White House this week.
Charles, 77, and Camilla, 78, departed from President Trump and First Lady Melania in Washington D.C. on Thursday, after a busy four-day schedule that featured a state banquet and a speech to Congress.
Speaking to reporters, Trump described Charles as "the greatest King" – but it seems he had more to say when the cameras were not rolling.
During the visit, he spoke with royal author Robert Hardman in the Oval Office about his recent biography on the late Queen, Elizabeth II.
In his Daily Mail column, Hardman shared that the President inquired about the Prince and Princess of Wales, noting William: "William, he’ll be a fine King, won't he? He’s very nice. A wonderful man. I like him."
Trump also spoke highly of Kate, 44, describing her as "perfect" and "so great." He reportedly asked, "How's she doing?" and commented on her illness and courage in recovery: "She's so great. She was unwell, there were wild rumors about her, but she showed remarkable courage."
Trump last encountered the Princess of Wales in September, attending a state banquet at Windsor Castle. Back then, he remarked on Kate’s "radiance, vibrant health, and beauty."
Sitting beside her during the dinner, the Princess exuded elegance in a couture gown by British designer Phillipa Lepley featuring a gold Chantilly lace overlay.
The President lavished praise on "amazing" Charles and highlighted the historical connections between the UK and the US during the state visit, where he was at one point caught affectionately touching the King’s knee.
He has also provided insight into personal discussions and his perceptions of the King’s views on significant issues, such as the situation in Iran.
When the state visit wrapped up, he described the King as "the greatest king, in my opinion” during the farewell. After his American visit, Charles flew to Bermuda on Friday for a solo three-day trip.
