Man and woman neglect brother until blanket adheres to wounds in filthy home
Tamara Eaton and Michael Tinsley face charges of neglect of dependent causing bodily harm
A man and woman from Indiana are accused of leaving his brother in a filthy house to the point where blankets adhered to sores on his feet.
Tamara Eaton, 47, and Michael Tinsley, 39, face charges of neglect of a dependent causing bodily harm and obstruction of justice, as per court documents obtained by Law&Crime.
Tinsley is also charged with possession of marijuana following a previous drug offense.
On Sunday, the pair were at a residence on West Missouri Street in Evansville, a southern city near the Kentucky border, with Tinsley's brother.
They were looking after the man — who has autism — following the recent passing of his mother.
The man's sister, residing out of state, contacted authorities due to her concerns for him, as reported by regional NBC affiliate WFIE.
When officers arrived, they claimed Eaton blocked their entry, insisting adult protective services were already present. Police then left.
A few days afterward, a medical device company employee reportedly reached out to law enforcement, citing the home’s hazardous condition.
Officers came back and stated they had to threaten to break in before anyone responded at the door.
Upon entering, officers reported finding the brother on the couch with a blanket adhering to numerous sores on his feet.
The man also suffered a burn on his arm and appeared malnourished, according to officials.
The residence was described as noticeably dirty, with a collapsing floor and no running water, local reports stated.
The refrigerator was empty, and the whole place smelled of decomposition.
The man was taken to the hospital, while Eaton and Tinsley were arrested and jailed. Their initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
