Man allegedly shoots woman over barking dog, tells police he’ll ‘make the news’

A resident in Missouri was so infuriated by a woman's dog barking that he shot her and later remarked to detectives that he would "make headlines" and that they should find him, according to officials.

Frank Forshee, aged 65, faces charges of first-degree domestic assault resulting in severe physical injury, armed criminal activity, and illegal firearm possession. These charges stem from an incident on Sunday.

Based on a probable cause statement obtained by Law&Crime, Forshee resided in Hillsboro with another man and woman. Hillsboro is approximately 40 miles southwest of St. Louis.

The other man stated Forshee had been in the midst of a "meth binge" and seemed to be "struggling with mental health challenges," behaving unpredictably in recent days.

The accused had reportedly threatened the woman the night before with a firearm and shot into the home's floor.

On the day of the event, Forshee engaged in a dispute with the woman in the living room—which also served as her bedroom—due to his annoyance over the persistent barking of her dog, the court document states.

He allegedly "menaced the victim with a small, silver pocket knife before retreating to his room."

Upon returning, Forshee had a .22 caliber dark revolver with a wooden grip, identified as a Heritage gun.

While the woman was on her bed holding her dog, he reportedly "fired a single shot, hitting the victim in the stomach."

The woman and the other man exited the premises and dialed 911. Officers from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office arrived to find the woman with a gunshot wound "that entered the right side of her stomach and exited through her left calf." She was transported to a medical facility.

While detectives conducted their investigation, they discovered that Forshee had reached out to a relative, suggesting "he wouldn't go to jail and hinted at self-harm."

Negotiators managed to contact Forshee through text, where he mentioned he would "make headlines" and that "law enforcement should come find him."

Detectives also interviewed a neighbor who indicated "Frank walked onto their property" with a gun "fitting the description provided by the witness," according to the affidavit.

Forshee allegedly confessed to the neighbor "holding the firearm during a dispute with the victim" and that he "tried to hit the dog using the gun, leading to it discharging," police reported.

"The property was subsequently examined and inspected," the probable cause statement continues. "The crime scene and found evidence matched the witness's accounts."

Forshee reportedly left the vicinity and wasn't taken into custody until Thursday, as per jail records.

He is being detained without bail, and officials have yet to announce his court appearance date.
