Simu Liu reflects on 'community power' after receiving Gold Mogul Honour
The actor described his career as shaped by both resilience and strong support systems
Simu Liu has reflected on his long journey to Hollywood success after being honoured at the Gold House Gold Gala with the Gold Mogul Award.
The Marvel star, 37, delivered an emotional acceptance speech where he credited both persistence and community support for his breakthrough in the entertainment industry.
“The only reason that I’m here is 10% being too stubborn to give up, and 90% the most amazing support system,” Liu said, adding that he has been “thinking a lot about what community means.”
Liu also reflected on his early life, recalling moving to Canada more than three decades ago and living in a modest apartment in Ontario among other Chinese graduate students.
“I learned from a very young age that a community stands together,” he said. “It does not collapse in on itself. It does not tear itself down.”
He went on to praise the collective strength of storytellers, leaders and creators in the Asian Pacific community, emphasizing that true impact comes through unity.
Looking out at the audience, Liu said he was struck by “how much power there is” in the room, but stressed that this potential can only be fully realized when people work together.
The Gold Mogul honour recognizes influential figures in entertainment and culture, and Liu’s speech highlighted his ongoing advocacy for representation and collaboration in Hollywood.
