David Beckham becomes UK’s first billionaire athlete in historic milestone

David Beckham has officially been named the United Kingdom’s first billionaire athlete, according to the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List.

The former Manchester United and England star, 51, has seen his combined fortune with wife Victoria Beckham soar to an estimated £1.185 billion ($1.58 billion), marking a dramatic rise driven largely by business expansion and long-term commercial investments.

A major contributor to the couple’s wealth surge is Beckham’s growing stake in Inter Miami CF, the Major League Soccer club he co-owns.

The club’s valuation and global profile have increased significantly following the arrival of global football icon Lionel Messi, whose move to Miami helped boost the franchise’s commercial appeal and international visibility.

Beckham is also credited with playing a key role in persuading Messi to extend his stay with the club for a further three years, reinforcing Inter Miami’s long-term brand strategy and global reach.

Another significant asset in Beckham’s portfolio is a large property and commercial development surrounding the team’s new stadium in Miami.

The 131-acre site includes offices, retail outlets, residential spaces, and restaurants, and is reportedly valued at more than £370 million.

Beyond football-related ventures, Beckham’s UK-based company DRJB Holdings has continued to generate substantial returns.

The business paid out approximately £43 million in dividends in 2024, followed by a further £17.2 million in early 2025, reflecting strong ongoing profitability.

Beckham retains a 45% stake in his commercial empire after previously selling part of his global brand rights to Authentic Brands Group.

Under that agreement, he received a reported $200 million in cash and $50 million in stock, while securing long-term profit participation in future earnings.

Meanwhile, Victoria Beckham’s fashion label has also strengthened the family’s overall financial standing.

After early financial challenges supported by a £23 million investment from Beckham, the brand now generates over £100 million in annual revenue and is valued at approximately £375 million, with the couple holding a significant minority stake.
