Maya Hawke shares emotional advice for brides after surprise NYC wedding

Maya Hawke has reflected on her Valentine’s Day wedding to musician Christian Lee Hutson and revealed the one thing she wishes she had done differently.

The actress and singer, 27, married Hutson, 35, during a surprise ceremony in New York City on Valentine's Day, surrounded by family, close friends, and several of her Stranger Things castmates.

Looking back on the intimate celebration, Hawke described the day as “wonderful” but admitted she spent far too much time stressing over everyone else’s experience instead of enjoying her own.

“Be selfish,” Hawke told Peoplewhile offering advice to future brides and grooms. “Because I worried so much about how everyone else’s experience was going to go that I’d worked myself into a total tizzy, and then it happened, and I had a great time, and everyone had a great time.”

“I didn’t need to worry as much as I did,” she added. “I wasted a lot of energy being so worried.”

The daughter of Hollywood stars Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman said her biggest lesson from the wedding was learning not to exhaust herself trying to please everyone.

“Everyone’s there to support you,” Hawke shared. “Do whatever you want. Don’t kill yourself trying to make everybody else happy, just make yourself happy.”

For the ceremony, Hawke wore a custom Prada gown paired with an oversized feathered winter coat, while Hutson opted for a classic custom Prada tuxedo.

The wedding also turned into a mini-reunion for the cast of Stranger Things, with co-stars Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, and Joe Keery attending the celebration.

The gathering came just weeks after the Netflix series officially wrapped filming at the end of 2025.

Hawke’s parents, who were married from 1998 to 2005, were also present alongside her brother, Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke.

The newlywed actress has continued to gush about married life in recent months. During the SXSW premiere of her romantic comedy Wishful Thinking in March, Hawke said marriage had been “absolutely fantastic.”

“I’m a very, very lucky person who’s very happy right now,” she said at the time.
