Rising stage star Tom Francis eyes 007 role amid fierce competition
The Olivier Award-winning actor joins a competitive field of contenders for the iconic 007 role
Tom Francis has officially entered the conversation for one of Hollywood’s most coveted roles, the next James Bond, as the casting process for the iconic spy continues to gather momentum.
According to industry reports from Variety, Francis has auditioned for the role, placing him among a growing pool of actors hoping to succeed Daniel Craig as the face of the long-running franchise.
Best known for his breakout stage performance opposite Nicole Scherzinger in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of Sunset Boulevard, Francis has quickly established himself as one of Britain’s most promising theatrical talents.
The actor’s performance earned him an Olivier Award and a Tony Award nomination, solidifying his reputation on stage even as he continues to expand into screen roles.
While his on-screen résumé is still developing, Francis has already begun making inroads in film and television.
He previously appeared in the George Clooney-led feature Jay Kelly and is set to appear in Peter Berg’s upcoming World War II drama The Mosquito Bowl, which also stars Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård.
He also made his television debut in the final season of You.
Francis joins a competitive list of rumored contenders for the Bond role, including Jacob Elordi, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Callum Turner, though producers have yet to confirm any final shortlist.
Outside of his career momentum, Francis has also drawn public attention for his relationship with Maia Reficco.
The pair went public in early 2025 and have since made several high-profile appearances together, including the Met Gala and Tony Awards, further raising his visibility in entertainment circles.
