Tom Hanks teases ‘Toy Story 5’ while admitting franchise still feels 'surreal'

The actor described ‘Toy Story 5’ as a vibrant and proper chapter in the long-running series

Tom Hanks is reflecting on nearly three decades of bringing Sheriff Woody to life as anticipation grows for Toy Story 5.

The Oscar-winning actor admitted he still finds it hard to believe he remains part of the beloved animated franchise that first debuted in 1995 and transformed modern animation.

Speaking about the upcoming installment, Hanks revealed he has already seen the film and described it as “a vibrant and proper chapter” in the long-running series.

“None of us can believe that we’re still a part of it,” the actor said while discussing the return of the iconic characters audiences have followed for decades.

Hanks will once again reprise his role as Woody alongside returning cast members including Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, John Ratzenberger and Wallace Shawn.

While details surrounding the plot remain tightly guarded, the Forrest Gump star avoided revealing too much about the highly anticipated sequel.

“Oh my Lord, all I can say is the saga continues,” Hanks joked when pressed for spoilers.

According to early details surrounding the film, the new chapter will reportedly explore how traditional toys adapt to a modern world as Woody, Buzz and the gang face competition from new technology, including a smart tablet named Lilypad introduced into Bonnie’s life.

Hanks also admitted that despite his years of experience with the franchise, recording sessions for each film still bring nerves and pressure.

The actor explained that even after voicing Woody across five films, he continues to feel the same “anxiety, pressure and physical demands” whenever he steps into the studio.

Toy Story became a cultural phenomenon upon release and helped establish Pixar as one of Hollywood’s leading animation powerhouses.

The franchise has since expanded into multiple sequels, shorts and spin-offs while remaining one of the most successful animated series in film history.
