Khloé Kardashian says she feels 'really terrible' after declawing cats in past

Khloé Kardashian has expressed regret over a past decision involving her pets, saying she feels “really, really terrible” after having her cats declawed, a choice she now believes has left them stressed and unable to behave naturally.

Speaking on her Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, the 41-year-old reality star said she was “misadvised” when she first agreed to the procedure, explaining that she had no prior experience with cats and did not fully understand the consequences at the time.

“I was really misadvised about getting my cats declawed,” she said. “I’ve never owned cats before. I didn’t even know that was a thing.”

Declawing, which involves the removal of part of a cat’s toe bones and claws, is widely criticized by animal welfare groups and is restricted or banned in several regions, including California, where Kardashian lives.

Kardashian said she now keeps her pets closely monitored and avoids allowing them near doors due to concerns about their inability to defend themselves outdoors.

“My cats wear AirTags,” she said. “They’re not allowed to even go near a door. I’m so afraid if they get out.”

The SKIMS co-founder, who shares two children with NBA player Tristan Thompson, also reflected on the challenges of owning multiple cats in the household, describing ongoing behavioral issues between her pets.

She first introduced a cat named Grey Kitty in 2022, followed by another named Baby Kitty about a year and a half later. Kardashian said the addition led to tension between the animals.

“Grey Kitty was perfect,” she said. “Then we got Baby Kitty… and Grey Kitty started peeing on the bed to show she was upset.”

Kardashian added that the situation escalated to the point where she installed cameras in her home to determine which cat was responsible for the behavior, but said the problem persisted.

“The vet and breeder have never seen a cat do this for this long,” she said, noting that she has received advice but continues to struggle with managing the situation.

She described feeling overwhelmed by the ongoing conflict between the pets, saying she is still trying to find a solution that improves their well-being.

“I am in an animal circus,” she said.

Her comments come amid ongoing public debate in parts of the United States over declawing practices, with several states restricting or banning the procedure except for medical necessity.
