Role Model, whose real name is Tucker Harrington Pillsbury, has spoken candidly about his decision to bring his celebrated Sally concert tradition to a close, confirming that the beloved guest trend has run its course.

What is the Sally trend?

For those unfamiliar with the phenomenon, Sally takes its name from the central character of Pillsbury's breakout hit, Sally, When the Wine Runs Out — a track from the deluxe edition of his second studio album, Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye), which the 29-year-old American singer-songwriter and former rapper released on Valentine's Day in 2025.

Beyond its indie-pop sound, the song became widely known for a concert tradition in which Role Model would invite celebrities and fans on stage to embody "Sally" for the evening.

Why he is walking away from it

Speaking to Rolling Stone in a recent interview, Pillsbury explained his reasoning for retiring the trend.

"I think I'm done," he told the outlet, adding that he had "no plans to keep that going" at his forthcoming Barcelona show at the Primavera Sound music festival.

He tied the decision directly to his confidence in his next body of work, referencing his upcoming album Chuck Timely & The Hourglass.

"I think it's good to know when to end a bit. If this album wasn't good, I'd be like, 'Yeah, we should probably keep the Sally bit going, I gotta sell tickets.' But I feel very good about this record, and I don't think people will even give a s******, to be honest," the Notice Me singer said.

A tradition that drew major names

During 2025 and into early 2026, the Sally tradition attracted an impressive roster of high-profile guests to the stage alongside Role Model, including Hilary Duff, Kate Hudson, Charli XCX, Natalie Portman, Olivia Rodrigo and others.

What comes next

Role Model's forthcoming album, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass, is scheduled for release on Friday, 7 August 2026.
