Kit Harington reflects on 'Game of Thrones' legacy and parenting concerns
The actor says fatherhood has changed how he approaches certain acting roles
Kit Harington has said he may reconsider taking on further nude scenes as he reflects on how his on-screen work could one day be viewed by his children.
In a new interview with Variety, the Game of Thrones star said fatherhood has increasingly influenced how he thinks about roles involving nudity and sex scenes, adding that he is becoming more conscious of the long-term implications.
“I think I should stop,” he said, explaining that he now finds himself thinking about how his children might react in the future. “Why is Daddy always naked on-screen?”
Harington shares two children with his wife, actor Rose Leslie, whom he met while filming Game of Thrones.
The couple married in 2018 and have a son, born in 2021, and a daughter, born in 2023.
During the conversation, Harington joked that his recent roles have included frequent nudity, prompting him to reflect more seriously on how such scenes may be perceived as his children grow older.
His former Game of Thrones co-star Peter Dinklage responded humorously during the interview, suggesting the issue may eventually become a conversation for a later stage in life, while noting that nudity remains a standard part of storytelling in film and television.
Harington and Leslie both appeared in the hit HBO series Game of Thrones, where Leslie portrayed Ygritte, Harington’s on-screen love interest in a storyline that became one of the show’s most memorable arcs.
The actor has previously said he does not expect his children to watch the series, suggesting they may feel uncomfortable seeing their parents’ relationship portrayed on screen.
He has also described fatherhood as a grounding influence on his career, saying it helps him reset after intense filming and shift his focus back to family life.
Harington currently stars in HBO’s Industry, continuing a career that has expanded well beyond his breakout role as Jon Snow.
