Olivia Rodrigo credits friends and family for keeping her grounded amid global fame

Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has opened up about how she manages to stay grounded while navigating global fame, crediting her close circle of friends and family for keeping her perspective intact.

The 23-year-old, who rose to international stardom following the success of her 2021 debut album Sour, said her support system plays a central role in helping her remain balanced despite the pressures of the music industry.

Speaking in an interview with Dazed, Rodrigo said the honesty of her friends helps her stay true to herself.

“My friends are really honest with me sometimes—they’ll just be like, ‘No, that’s not good, don’t do that,’” she said.

She also reflected warmly on her family life, saying, “I think I lucked out on the parent lottery. They have always been a really safe, stable resource for me.”

Rodrigo added that her approach to success is rooted in passion rather than pressure.

“As long as it comes from a place of passion and excitement and not from a place of ‘I need to do this so people like me,’ that’s the recipe for success and happiness,” she said.

Beyond music, the singer said she prioritizes simple routines and downtime to manage the demands of fame.

Her ideal day, she explained, includes yoga, spending time with friends, going to the beach, and even writing music.

“I’m really into yoga these days,” she said. “I would probably wake up, go to yoga, get brunch with my friends, go to the beach… and on my best day ever, I would write a really good song. Then go to the movies, eat dinner at the movie theatre.”

Rodrigo also highlighted her love of reading, noting it plays an important role in her creative process.

She said she is currently reading The Color Purple and Jessica Valenti’s Abortion, adding that the latter is particularly relevant to those interested in reproductive rights.

In earlier remarks, Rodrigo has also acknowledged the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, saying fame has in some ways “stunted” her personal development.
