Love Island UK has broken its silence on the abrupt villa departure of bombshell George Knight, with the ITV2 dating series addressing his exit in front of his fellow Islanders.

Villa told George has left

George had entered the villa as a bombshell on the first day of the series. His exit was confirmed to the other contestants by Lorenzo during Sunday night's episode, who delivered the news on behalf of the show. "George has left the Villa for private reasons and won't be coming back," Lorenzo told his fellow Islanders.

Robyn, who had shared a kiss with George during his time in the villa, responded warmly to the announcement. "Aww, George, we love you!"

George speaks out on Instagram

Several days after his departure, George broke his silence on social media, offering his own account of why he chose to leave the ITV2 series.

"Family comes first, always. Leaving the loveisland Villa was a decision made in order to be with my family. Out of respect for them, I'd prefer not to go into any further detail."

He also expressed gratitude for the public response to his exit.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out with kind messages and support! It genuinely means a lot."

Who is George Knight?

George is a 28-year-old professional footballer from Winchester. He had made clear before entering the villa that drama was not his motivation for taking part, though he acknowledged it was an unavoidable part of the process.

George's time in the villa

Despite his brief stay, George's time on the show was eventful. He arrived on Day 1 alongside fellow bombshell Yasmin, where they were welcomed by host Maya Jama.

The pair were immediately informed they were part of a twist: after 24 hours of mingling with the existing Islanders, they would be required to dump two of them.

That twist ultimately had a further turn of its own — the Islanders were not sent home after all, and were given the chance to remain in the villa.

George subsequently coupled up with Mica in a recoupling. Tension followed when Mica discovered that George had kissed Robyn — something that had occurred at Mica's own suggestion.

The situation caused considerable unease in the villa, and the day before George's exit, Robyn raised concerns that her account of what had taken place between them had been misrepresented. George clarified to Robyn that he had genuinely wanted to kiss her.

In a separate conversation with Mica, George offered an apology for his lack of sensitivity towards her feelings following the recoupling. Mica responded by telling him she would step back from pursuing a connection with him, and acknowledged that she felt a stronger bond existed between him and Robyn.

Islanders react to the news

Shortly after George and Mica's conversation, Lorenzo emerged to inform the group that George would be departing. The Islanders applauded as the news was delivered. Robyn later reflected on the moment in the diary room.

"I can't believe it, I actually can't believe it. He was the only person I was actually kind of interested in."

Love Island UK Season 13 airs nightly on ITV2 and streams on ITVX at 9 p.m. BST. In the United States, it is available to stream nightly on Hulu.
