Sam C Wilson teases out of body Hollywood rise after Trap Jaw role

Sam C Wilson has opened up about the extreme physical and prosthetic demands behind his transformation into Trap Jaw for the upcoming Masters of the Universe reboot, revealing that the role required hours of preparation before he even stepped in front of the camera.

The 35-year-old actor said the process began long before filming, with what he described as a “gruelling six hours of prosthetics” each shooting day.

The transformation involved being fitted, painted and sealed into an extensive full-body costume that brought the cyborg villain to life.

Wilson stars alongside Jared Leto, who plays Skeletor, and Idris Elba, who portrays Man-At-Arms, in the high-profile fantasy reboot.

Speaking to The Big Issue, Wilson explained that the physical toll extended well beyond makeup and prosthetics.

His preparation reportedly included weeks of intense gym work, carb and protein loading, and strength training designed to build the imposing physique required for the role.

Once physically ready, he was pushed into demanding stunt and fight choreography sessions that shaped Trap Jaw’s mechanical, precise movement style on screen.

Wilson said the training helped define how the character would “hit and move like a machine” during action sequences.

He also revealed that the character’s creation involved cutting-edge prosthetics and digital scanning work led by acclaimed designer Barrie Gower, known for his work on Stranger Things and Game of Thrones.

Wilson noted that much of Trap Jaw’s on-screen presence is practical costume work layered over his own performance.

The actor admitted the final result still feels surreal, saying it is strange to see himself transformed into what resembles a living action figure on screen.

Wilson also teased upcoming projects beyond the reboot, including a role in Blade Runner 2099, where he will appear alongside Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, calling the experience an “out of body experience.”
