Madonna stuns fans with 10-minute Confessions II visual feat Kate Moss and more stars
Madonna also performed at Gay Pride in New York in lingerie and dangled over a safety railing on stage
- Madonna released a 10-minute Confessions II video featuring Kate Moss and Benedict Cumberbatch.
- The video covers the first six tracks from her forthcoming album Confessions II.
- Confessions II is due for release on 3 July, produced in part by DJ Stuart Price.
Madonna shows no sign of reining in her creative ambitions, delivering one of her most audacious music videos in years to promote her forthcoming album — and enlisting supermodel Kate Moss along the way.
The 10-minute short film for Confessions II features an array of celebrity cameos, including Moss, Benedict Cumberbatch, Odessa A'zion, and Julia Garner — the actress set to portray Madonna in an upcoming biographical film.
What happens in the video
In one of the most talked-about sequences, the 67-year-old drags a young man into a toilet cubicle for a provocative encounter during a wild dance party set inside a nightclub bathroom.
Madonna initially drops to her knees as another partygoer peers over the top of the cubicle in visible disbelief. The man then lifts her into the air as the pair passionately paw at each other — leaving viewers to draw their own conclusions about exactly what is taking place.
The ambitious visual covers the first six tracks from Confessions II, functioning as a cinematic short film rather than a conventional music video.
Fans responded with considerable enthusiasm. "In an era dominated by 2-minute songs and 15-second homemade cell phone videos, Madonna just gave us a 10-minute cinematic musical experience full of artistry and storytelling," gushed one.
"In a time when visuals barely matter anymore, Madonna shows up with a whole film for six songs. This is what music video culture used to mean – she's showing us once again why she's the last TRUE POPSTAR!" added another.
Gay Pride performance raises eyebrows
The video arrives in the wake of Madonna's lingerie-clad appearance at Gay Pride in New York on Thursday, where she left onlookers open-mouthed with a daring stunt during her elevated stage performance.
In a moment captured on the concert's livestream, she swung one leg over the protective safety railing at the edge of the raised stage, leaving herself partly suspended above the crowd below.
Dressed in pink and blue corsetry and thigh-high boots, her setlist drew from both Confessions II and her back catalogue, including new tracks I Feel So Free, Bring Your Love and Love Sensation, as well as Confessions On a Dancefloor classics Get Together, I Love New York and Hung Up.
She was joined on stage by English DJ Stuart Price, whose association with Madonna dates back to the original Confessions On a Dancefloor, recorded together in 2005. Price is also serving as a producer on Confessions II, which is scheduled for release on 3 July — the same day Taylor Swift is reportedly set to marry Travis Kelce.
Madonna hits back at ageism critics
Madonna has previously addressed criticism directed at her appearance and choices in a lengthy Instagram post, taking aim at what she described as "ageism and misogyny."
She wrote of living in a "world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous," and made clear she had no intention of apologising for "any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress."
The Like a Prayer singer added that whilst she felt she had been "degraded" since the earliest days of her career, "I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come."
Pride Month video causes a stir
The week prior, Madonna posted a racy video to mark the start of Pride Month in which she suffered a nip slip that had to be censored with a black bar to comply with the platform's content rules. She was also seen smoking and crawling across the floor as her cleavage spilled from her top.
"You know what, see a f***ing boob," she said nonchalantly before leaning into the camera to blow a kiss. "Happy Pride! Happy Pride."
