Tom Hanks and cast reveal they didn’t know about Taylor Swift track in ‘Toy Story 5’
The film is set to release in theaters on June 19
Toy Story 5 cast members have revealed that they were kept in the dark about a surprise musical contribution from Taylor Swift during production, saying they only learned about the track shortly before its release.
The upcoming Disney and Pixar film features an original song reportedly written and produced by Swift alongside Jack Antonoff, inspired by the character Jessie, voiced by Joan Cusack, and released earlier this month.
Speaking in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tom Hanks, who voices Woody, said the cast was only informed about the song “hours” before discussing it publicly.
Hanks added that key portions of the film were deliberately withheld during recording sessions to preserve major story and music surprises, calling the secrecy process “top secret” and describing the reveal as “huge.”
Co-star Tim Allen, who voices Buzz Lightyear, also noted that the cast often worked with incomplete or decoy versions of scenes to prevent leaks during production.
Actor Greta Lee, who voices Lilypad, confirmed that the team screened a version of the film where the musical segment had been intentionally concealed.
According to production staff cited by Variety, only a small group within Pixar knew about Swift’s involvement, with a decoy version of the film created to maintain secrecy during development.
The source added that even much of the crew working on Toy Story 5 was unaware of the collaboration until shortly before the public announcement.
Toy Story 5 is scheduled to hit theaters on June 19, continuing the long-running animated franchise with new musical and story elements kept tightly under wraps.
