Rosie O’Donnell responds to 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' takeover rumours

Rosie O’Donnell dismissed speculation that she wants to permanently replace Jimmy Kimmel as host of Jimmy Kimmel Live, calling the claims "completely untrue."

The comedian and former talk show host addressed the rumours after sharing what appeared to be a media inquiry about a report claiming she hoped to turn her upcoming guest-hosting stint into a full-time role.

On Instagram, O’Donnell posted a screenshot of an email referencing a report that alleged she was planning a "takeover" of Jimmy Kimmel Live and was willing to approach ABC executives about making the job permanent.

The email claimed network executives were preparing for increased attention following her guest-host appearance and suggested she wanted to secure a long-term late-night hosting position.

Responding publicly, O’Donnell wrote, "Ha funny - and completely untrue."

While ruling out late-night television, she revealed she would be open to another type of hosting opportunity.

"I leave Ireland the day I'm done guest hosting for Jimmy - where my child starts the 8th grade - I'm not interested in doing late night - daytime however would be interesting," she wrote.

O’Donnell is scheduled to guest host Jimmy Kimmel Live for one week beginning August 17 while Kimmel is away.

The appearance comes as Kimmel has remained in the headlines following recent controversies involving former President Donald Trump and ABC.

O’Donnell became one of television's biggest daytime stars with The Rosie O'Donnell Show, which aired from 1996 to 2002 and earned multiple Daytime Emmy Awards.

She later joined The View in 2006 before leaving after a highly publicised on-air clash with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. She returned to the panel in 2014 but departed again the following year.

In a recent interview with Page Six, O’Donnell explained that she ended The Rosie O'Donnell Show after realising she had achieved financial security and wanted to spend more time with her children.

"I wanted to be at their softball games. I wanted to be at school plays," she said.
