Nancy Guthrie case sheriff shares hopeful update after Savannah’s plea
Investigators continue reviewing DNA and surveillance footage
Nancy Guthrie abduction sheriff said he’s ‘positive’ case will be solved, offering a hopeful update as investigators continue examining DNA and surveillance evidence nearly six months after the 84-year-old was kidnapped.
The comments from Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos came after Savannah Guthrie posted an emotional video pleading with her mother's abductors to reveal her whereabouts.
Sheriff says investigators are reviewing key evidence
Speaking to NBC's Today show, Nanos said investigators still have extensive evidence to examine.
"We have so much DNA to sort through," he said. "We have so much in terms of video evidence to look at."
Despite the lengthy investigation, Nanos expressed confidence in the case.
"I'm still positive that we're gonna resolve this case," he said.
Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home on Feb. 1. The investigation is being led jointly by the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI.
Authorities have not identified any suspects.
Savannah Guthrie issues emotional plea
On Monday, Savannah Guthrie shared a video on Instagram directly addressing those responsible for her mother's disappearance.
"The world can be a cruel and unforgiving place," she said. "So I'm asking you, begging you to do the right thing now."
The Today co-anchor urged the kidnappers to "make the right choice," asking them to help her family by revealing where her mother could be found.
"I truly believe it is never too late to do the right thing," she added.
FBI continues investigation
Investigators previously released doorbell camera footage showing a masked intruder outside Nancy Guthrie's home during the early hours of Feb. 1.
According to Today correspondent Erin McLaughlin, it remains unclear why Savannah released the new message now, though it "could be in response to a new line of communication."
Savannah is currently away from the Today show while filming NBC's upcoming Wordle game show, with co-hosts temporarily filling in during her absence.
