Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter Zahara seeks name change in court filing
The move follows similar name changes previously made by her siblings
Zahara Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has reportedly filed legal paperwork to remove “Pitt” from her surname, according to court documents cited by People magazine.
The 21-year-old is one of six children shared by the former couple, whose long relationship ended in 2016 after two years of marriage and more than a decade together.
The filing, reportedly submitted to the Superior Court of California, is said to have been made on April 28.
A source close to Brad Pitt, 62, reacted to the development, saying it was “sad” to see what they described as repeated public distancing from the actor by his children.
“It’s sad to see someone repeatedly publicise their successful alienation of their children from the other parent,” the source said.
The move comes shortly after Zahara’s older brother Maddox also filed to legally remove “Pitt” from his surname.
Jolie, 51, and Pitt share six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. In recent years, several of the children have publicly shifted away from using “Pitt” in their surnames.
In 2024, Shiloh was granted a legal name change and now goes by Shiloh Jolie.
Zahara has also shown public indications of using the shortened surname.
At her college graduation in May, she was listed in the programme as Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt, but was called Zahara Marley Jolie when receiving her diploma.
Earlier, during her initiation into Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Zahara introduced herself simply as Zahara Marley Jolie.
In a video shared by Essence, she also spoke about her upbringing and relationship with her mother, reflecting on the close bond she shares with Jolie.
“I was adopted at six months old and given some of the most special and loving people as my siblings,” she said, crediting her mother for raising them with values of kindness, service, and personal growth.
Zahara described her relationship with Jolie as deeply personal and formative, calling it a “unique, almost kindred relationship” that has shaped her outlook on life.
