Brooklyn mother and boyfriend face murder charges over toddler death
Hospital employee recalls moment mother left deceased infant with medical staff
A Brooklyn mother and her boyfriend were indicted on murder charges on Monday in connection with the death of her three-year-old son. The charges follow an incident where the body of the toddler was dropped off at a medical facility last year. The Brooklyn District Attorney's Office revealed that Sunshyne Davis, 25, and Robert White, 39, left the body of three-year-old Kyng Davis at a local hospital on March 9, 2025.
The legal case was confirmed via a press release shared with PEOPLE, which noted that Davis and White drove away immediately after speaking to hospital staff. A hospital employee described the unsettling encounter to PIX 11 following the incident.
“I heard that some lady [was] bringing in a baby, lifeless,” the employee said. “And when [hospital staff] tried to get more, asked what happened, she just left. She just took off. She had a car parked, waiting for her. And they just left.”
Allegations of severe abuse
The death of the toddler was caused by systematic child abuse, according to allegations raised by prosecutors. The specific medical findings include blunt force trauma and extreme neglect coupled with starvation and dehydration. Law enforcement authorities noted that the couple were living inside White's vehicle at the time of the boy's death.
Both Davis and White were indicted on multiple counts. These legal boundaries include second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child. White faced additional legal scrutiny after being charged previously with assault for allegedly striking the boy in the face multiple times.
District attorney vows justice
The local justice department has promised a thorough prosecution of the couple to ensure accountability for the loss of life. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez expressed deep condemnation of the actions detailed in the indictment.
“This innocent child allegedly suffered day after day, denied the most basic care and compassion," Gonzalez said in an official statement. "Instead of safeguarding Kyng Davis, the defendants are accused of inflicting the very harm that led to his death. We will vigorously prosecute this case to secure justice for Kyng and ensure accountability for this devastating tragedy."
It remains unclear at this stage of the judicial proceedings whether either defendant has officially entered a plea. Furthermore, public records do not yet indicate if the individuals have retained legal counsel for their defence.
