Couple indicted after allegedly abandoning 'lifeless' toddler at Brooklyn hospital
The case has sparked outrage as prosecutors describe prolonged abuse leading to the child’s death
A Brooklyn mother and her boyfriend have been indicted on murder charges in connection with the death of her 3-year-old son, whose body was allegedly dropped off at a hospital before the pair left the scene.
Prosecutors say Sunshyne Davis, 25, and Robert White, 39, brought the lifeless body of 3-year-old Kyng Davis to a Brooklyn hospital on March 9, 2025.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, after speaking briefly with hospital staff, the two allegedly left the facility and drove away.
A hospital employee later told local media that staff were alarmed when a woman arrived with a child described as “lifeless” but refused to provide further information before quickly leaving the premises.
Authorities allege Kyng Davis died as a result of prolonged child abuse, including blunt force trauma as well as starvation and dehydration.
Investigators also believe the child had been subjected to severe neglect leading up to his death.
Prosecutors said the couple had been living in White’s car at the time of the boy’s death.
Both Davis and White have been indicted on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child.
White had previously been charged with assault in connection with allegations that he struck the child in the face multiple times.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez condemned the alleged abuse, saying the child was denied basic care and protection.
“This innocent child allegedly suffered day after day, denied the most basic care and compassion,” Gonzalez said.
“Instead of safeguarding Kyng Davis, the defendants are accused of inflicting the very harm that led to his death.”
Authorities have not confirmed whether the defendants have entered pleas or obtained legal representation.
