Taylor Swift sent fans into a frenzy on Thursday, sharing a childhood photograph and behind-the-scenes studio footage on Instagram just one day before the release of Toy Story 5, which features her original end credits song, I Knew It, I Knew You.
The Grammy-winning singer took to Instagram to begin what she described as the final countdown to the film's release, posting a throwback image from her childhood alongside exclusive footage from her recording sessions for the Pixar production.
'Oh how I love this phenomenal movie'
Swift's post carried unmistakable excitement for the project. "TOMORROW WE GET TS5," she wrote, before adding: "Oh how I love this phenomenal movie. Disney and pixar's toystory 5 is in theaters everywhere tomorrow (!!!!!)."
In the accompanying video clip, Swift appeared inside a recording studio, offering fans a rare look at the creative process behind the track. She described the session as one of the "most fun days of my life," and revealed how the song came to exist in the first place — she had watched Toy Story 5, felt so moved by it that she went home and wrote the end credits song on the spot.
Bob Iger and the race to record
The video also captured a candid moment of pressure behind the scenes. "We have now produced it and I am doing vocals, it's 6:57 PM in two hours Bob Iger and Tom from Pixar are coming to hear it," Swift said, before noting: "We have not recorded it yet."
Inspired by Jessie the cowgirl
I Knew It, I Knew You was written as a tribute to Jessie, the beloved cowgirl character from the Toy Story franchise. Swift co-wrote and co-produced the track with her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, and described the creative experience as both a new challenge and something that felt deeply familiar.
"Writing this song felt like a musical departure and coming home at the same time," she wrote on Instagram. "Creating something for Jessie was a new challenge and also felt like second nature all at once. And being a toystory kid from the age of 5 til now… is an adventure I plan to be on, to infinity and beyond."
Gratitude to Pixar and Randy Newman
Swift used the post to also express her admiration for the creative minds behind the franchise. "Thank you to the brilliant Andrew Stanton for imagining me for this, all those years ago when you wrote this newest film," she wrote. "Thank you to the incomparable randynewmanofficial for the gorgeous sonic tapestry of songs and scores you've meticulously woven over the years. You created the Toy Story musical world, and we are lucky to get to live in it."
She also gave a personal nod to her co-writer. "By we, I mean myself and my pal jackantonoff. We wrote this with so much adoration for these characters that made us laugh and helped us learn lessons and think outside the backyard all throughout our childhoods," Swift added. "'I Knew It, I Knew You' from Toy Story 5 is out everywhere now."
