Hayden Panettiere misses rare 'Scream 4' reunion following family emergency

Hayden Panettiere has canceled a scheduled public appearance after a private family health emergency prompted a last-minute change to her plans.

The Scream actress was expected to attend the Creep I.E. Aftermath horror convention in Ontario, California, on July 11 and 12, where organizers had promoted a rare Scream 4 reunion with her former co-star Nico Tortorella.

However, event organizers announced on July 10 that Panettiere would no longer attend, citing an unspecified emergency.

A representative for the 36-year-old actress later clarified the reason behind the cancellation in a statement, revealing it was due to "a private family matter concerning the health of an elderly relative."

Panettiere has not publicly commented on her absence.

Following her withdrawal, organizers confirmed that actress Dominique Swain, best known for Lolita and Face/Off, would join the convention as a replacement guest.

Panettiere was set to appear alongside a lineup that included Christopher Lloyd, Mira Sorvino, Tara Reid, Billy Zane and Jamie Campbell.

She was not the only celebrity forced to miss the event. Organizers also announced that Tori Spelling canceled her appearance, while Christina Ricci, John Carroll Lynch and Carel Struycken rescheduled for future events.

The cancellation comes as Panettiere has been promoting her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, released in May.

In the book, the Nashville alum opens up about deeply personal moments from her life and career, including her experiences navigating child stardom, the heartbreaking loss of her younger brother Jansen in 2023, and her decision to allow her daughter, Kaya, to primarily live with her former partner, Wladimir Klitschko.

Panettiere has remained active on social media during the book's promotional tour, with her most recent post before the cancellation celebrating the Fourth of July.
