Jason Bateman recalls drunken Monaco arrest before sobriety
The 'Ozark' star shared the story of his Monaco arrest while reflecting on the lifestyle he left behind
Jason Bateman has looked back on one of the wildest moments of his partying years, revealing he was once arrested in Monaco after a drunken night out while dressed in what he described as a "nice little leopard outfit."
The Ozark star shared the story during an episode of his SmartLess podcast, recalling how excessive drinking landed him in trouble with local authorities before he embraced sobriety.
"I was arrested in Monaco for being drunk and disorderly in a nice little leopard outfit," Bateman said, adding that he had left the casinos after drinking cheap champagne and carrying a pocket full of casino chips.
Although the 57-year-old did not specify when the incident occurred, he has previously spoken about leaving his hard-partying lifestyle behind in the early 2000s.
Earlier this year, Bateman revealed that his wife, Amanda Anka, played a major role in encouraging him to stop drinking, explaining that the couple had several honest conversations before he finally committed to changing his lifestyle.
The actor said he decided to quit alcohol and harder drugs before becoming a father, wanting to build a stable home while continuing to pursue his acting career.
Bateman has also admitted he was fortunate that his reckless years happened before smartphones and social media, saying he "got away with a lot" because many of those moments were never captured publicly.
Since turning his life around, Bateman has enjoyed one of Hollywood's most successful second acts, earning widespread acclaim for Ozark while continuing to entertain audiences through the hit SmartLess podcast alongside Will Arnett and Sean Hayes.
