As Williams spoke, a small white object appeared to fall from his mouth onto the microphone before he casually picked it up and placed it on his forehead, prompting a wave of online theories.

Williams later shared a tongue-in-cheek video on Instagram, pretending to issue an apology before revealing the truth.

"I'd just like to apologize for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday," he joked. "It was deeply unprofessional."

Moments later, he smiled and opened his mouth to show several breath mints still inside, making light of the viral misunderstanding.

According to reports, those close to the singer said he was surprised by the attention the clip received before realising viewers had mistaken a Nicorette mint for something far more suspicious.
