Anne Hathaway’s manicurist reveals the secret behind her elegant ‘The Odyssey’ nails

Anne Hathaway’s understated manicure has become one of the standout beauty moments of The Odyssey press tour, and now her celebrity manicurist has revealed exactly how the timeless look came together.

Celebrity nail artist Mo Qin shared that Hathaway wanted a manicure that felt effortlessly chic for the film’s red carpet premiere.

“Anne really wanted something that felt chic and effortless,” Qin said. “She loved how soft, clean and elegant they looked. It’s the kind of manicure that feels timeless, and on the red carpet, that subtle polish can make a big impact.”

To achieve the look, Qin used a combination of Essie nail-care products, with the centrepiece being the brand’s Gel Couture polish in the pale pink shade Fairy Tailor.

The manicure began with Essie’s Strong Start Strengthening Base Coat applied to clean, shaped nails.

Qin then layered two coats of Fairy Tailor before adding a coat of Mademoiselle, a sheer baby pink shade designed to give the nails added depth while maintaining a natural appearance.

The look was finished with Essie’s Gel Couture Shiny Top Coat to create a glossy, gel-like finish without requiring a UV lamp, followed by Apricot Cuticle Oil to hydrate the cuticles and enhance the shine.

According to Qin, proper nail preparation is just as important as choosing the right polish.

“Don’t skip the prep,” she advised. “People often focus on the polish color, but the secret to beautiful nails is everything that comes before it. Take care of your cuticles, shape your nails evenly and apply thin coats of polish instead of thick ones.”

She added that finishing with a glossy top coat instantly gives nails a more polished, photo-ready appearance, even when using simple nude or sheer shades.

Hathaway, 43, has been showcasing the minimalist manicure throughout her The Odyssey promotional appearances, with the clean, natural look complementing her elegant red carpet style.

Her beauty choice reflects the growing popularity of understated, "your nails but better" manicures that emphasise healthy, well-groomed nails over bold colours.
