Miley Cyrus teases acting return after focusing on music career

Miley Cyrus is hoping to make her return to acting, revealing that she would love to take on a dramatic role inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.

The 33-year-old singer, who first found fame as a child star on Disney Channel's Hannah Montana, has spent recent years focusing primarily on her music career.

However, she admitted she is eager to step back in front of the camera and already has ideas for future projects.

During an interview with actress Daryl Hannah for Wonderland magazine, Cyrus shared her desire to explore both music and acting.

"Well … that's partly why I wanted to get in touch. I'd genuinely love to do both," she said.

"My dream has always been to work with artists I admire, and you're one of them. I think we'd make magic together, Daryl. I have an idea. Call me."

Cyrus later revealed that her ideal acting comeback would involve a dark but romantic story with the emotional intensity of a Shakespearean tragedy.

"Violence is everywhere, and there's a beauty in darkness, but I'd love to disappear into something deeply romantic," she said.

"The kind of love we dream about, but with real stakes. A good old Shakespearean tragedy would be hot – a punk-rock Juliet. Something fierce and heartbreakingly romantic."

The actress previously starred in films including The Last Song, LOL and So Undercover, following her breakout success with Hannah Montana and its movie adaptation.

While Cyrus explores a possible acting comeback, she has also continued to build her music career after signing a new record deal with Atlantic Records following her departure from Columbia Records.

The singer-songwriter's new label welcomed her with a social media post, writing, "Welcome to the family mileycyrus."

Atlantic Records is also home to major artists including Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Rosé, PinkPantheress and Lizzo.

Cyrus previously released Endless Summer Vacation and Something Beautiful through Columbia Records, with the latter arriving in 2025.

Before that, she began her music career with Disney's Hollywood Records before later moving to RCA.

Ahead of the release of Something Beautiful, Cyrus teased that her next musical chapter would be experimental, telling fans at an event at Hollywood's Chateau Marmont that the album was just the beginning.

"My next album is about to be extremely experimental, so have fun with that," she said. "Something Beautiful is just the appetizer."
