‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ trailer brings back Jason Momoa as sea superhero
'Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom' will release in theaters on Dec. 20, 2023
The Warner Bros studio and DC finally released the highly anticipated Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer and fans believe it was all worth the wait!
The much-awaited trailer of Aquaman 2 was released on Thursday, bringing Jason Momoa back in his titular role of Arthur Curry aka the seaside superhero.
Sparking excitement among fans, the trailer gave fans a glimpse of Momoa’s life as well as his mother Atlanna (Nicole Kidman), villain Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and Mera (Amber Heard), among others.
The trailer also sees Arthur becoming acquainted with half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson) to team up against Manta and protect their kingdom.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is a sequel to 2018 hit Aquaman movie, which earned over $1 billion at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing DC movie of all time.
The James Wan directorial film served as a "romance action-adventure movie" about Arthur and Heard's Mera.
Previously, Wan told Entertainment Weekly that the new installment is a "bromance action-adventure movie" with Arthur and half-brother Orm.
Wan, 46, also teased potential for future Aquaman movies and clarified that the new film is "not connected in any way to" recent DC big-screen offerings like The Flash.
"What I like between this one and the first one is you really do see the growth of Arthur. He starts off as this kind of wanderer, and in the second one he finally has more of a direction of what he wants to do with his life," the director shared.
"If and when there is a third one, that's what it should be; it should be growing these characters because I think we've set up certain things in a good place in the second movie that you can definitely draw upon in a third," Wan continued. "I don't have any stories, but growing the characters is the biggest thing that I think the next Aquaman movie should be about," he added.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is scheduled to release in theaters on Dec. 20, 2023.
