Virat Kohli has become the first batsman in the world to score 50 ODI centuries in today’s ICC World Cup semi-finals against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium.

The previous record holder for most centuries of all time was the legendary batsman, Sachin Tendulkar with an impressive record of 49 centuries in his ODI career.

Kohli raised his arms and sank to his knees, bowing to the fans after taking his helmet off, celebrating his three-figure score in the semifinal match against New Zealand. He was 100 not out after facing 106 balls in a virtually chanceless innings.

He scored his century against fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, having faced 106 balls, hitting eight fours and a six to break the record of 49 ODI hundreds he had shared with Sachin Tendulkar.

The Indian Cricket team captain’s wife, Anushka Sharma was there to witness her husband make history.

As soon as he scored his century the camera was directed towards her who blew flying kisses towards the cricketer with absolute adoration.

Kohli, all smiles, reciprocated the gesture of affection by giving his wife a flying kiss in response.

The crowd erupted into massive cheers as the commentators announced that Kohli had just broken the ODI record.

People were seen bowing towards the batsman out of utmost respect, while others waved their Indian flags high in the air with sheer enthusiasm.

According to Mint, the batsman has also surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record for the most runs in a single World Cup. He has gone past the 673 runs that Tendulkar scored in the 2003 World Cup.
