'Game of Thrones' creators David Benioff, D.B. Weiss reflects on backlash
'Game of Thrones’ final and eight season was released on May 19, 2019

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recalled receiving backlash over the series finale.
The final and eight seasons of the show was released on May 19, 2019.
The beloved HBO franchise was criticized on social media platforms after the final season.
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recalled the criticism and trolls during a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. The pair also discussed their upcoming sci-fi drama 3 Body Problem.
David began with, "You always hope everyone's going to love anything you do and it would've been great if 100 percent of people loved it," adding, "But they didn't."
He continued, "You can get so bogged down in public opinion that you spend your whole life googling things and trying to find people who felt one way or the other way.”
D.B. highlighted in the same discussion that even the “positive” feedback made them feel weird after the trolling.
He explained, "Even super positive feedback makes you feel weird and teeth-grindy and on edge. There's a drug quality to the feedback, and as soon as we went cold turkey -- the last time I googled myself was in 2013 -- the ambient stress level in our lives dropped by about 50 percent overnight."
The pair’s new sci-fi series will release in March, it is based upon a popular Liu Cixin’s novel.
The creators noted that they worked extra hard in this project despite Game of Thrones' success.

David continued, "It's great we won a bunch of awards, but that was a while ago. You have to keep proving yourself."
D.B. also highlighted, "What excited us about Thrones when we read George's books was that this was something we had never seen onscreen before. In a lot of ways, [3 Body Problem] couldn't be more different from Game of Thrones, but it had that in common."
