Elton John ‘humbled to be securing’ ‘EGOT’ status with latest Emmy win

Elton John has added another feather to his cap by winning the 75th Primetime Emmy Award for his outstanding live variety special for Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger’s Stadium.

This new victory lands The Rocket Man singer in EGOT, a list of very few celebrities possessing all four major honours, Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

John himself did not attend the star-studded ceremony held on Monday, however Amy Poehler, while announcing the honor mentioned the 76-year-old singer’s EGOT status noting, "Now I can’t speak for Elton but, 'EGOT' to be excited about that."

The John’s special producers received the honour on behalf of the singer saying that he "sent his love and thanks" to the voters.

John Elton won the honor for his live concert Disney+ show at Dodger Stadium, shortly after winning the 2023 Emmy, the legendary singer turned to his Instagram account to celebrate this new milestone with a heartfelt note.

“We won an Emmy and I am on cloud nine!! Receiving this recognition is a testament to the passion and dedication of everyone involved, and I am so deeply grateful,” began John in his caption.

He went on to express, “Whilst I am gutted that I couldn’t be there to accept this award in person– I recently underwent a knee operation, a gentle reminder, perhaps, of a lifetime spent jumping off pianos (see pic 2!) - my heartfelt thanks go out to the @televisionacad and all those who took the time to vote. This award reflects the collective effort and creativity of an amazing team…”

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to @disneyplus, @davidfurnish, @lukelloyddavies, @mrbenwinston, and the entire @fulwell73productions and @rocketentertainment teams for your commitment to bringing this to life,” he added to thanks his team.

He concluded his message with words of acknowledgment for other crew members as well as the artists who joined the singer during his tour, “A special acknowledgment goes to the exceptional band and the entire crew of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour. Your commitment and talent have always been the driving force that keeps our incredible fans entertained night after night. In a statement to ET, the Tiny Dancer singer said, "I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight." 

He further noted, "The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world. Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful."
