Tracy Chapman, Luke Combs team up for 'Fast Car' duet at Grammys 2024
Tracy Chapman originally released 'Fast Car' on April 6, 1988
Tracy Chapman might be joining the stage of the 66th Annual Grammy Awards alongside Luke Combs to perform a duet on the hit song, Fast Car, on February 4, 2024, Sunday night.
A source spilled the beans to Variety that The Promise singer, who has not performed in public in years, might just perform her hit track at the upcoming ceremony.
In January, the Recording Academy announced Luke Combs as one of their official performers at the award ceremony via their official Instagram account.
Combs rose to fame after he released his massive hit rendition of Fast Car (originally sung by Tracy Chapman) last year and her appearance at the show for a duet would come off as an immense surprise as the Stand by Me singer has only performed for the cameras three times since wrapping up her last tour in 2009.

Combs’ cover of Fast Car was ranked as the fifth biggest song of the year 2023 in the U.S., coming in ahead of hit tracks like Taylor Swift’s Anti-Hero, last November.
After the rendition was released, the cover artist as well as Tracy Chapman’s song, originally released in 1988, topped the Billboard’s Radio Songs chart for four weeks.
Fast Car also landed the number one spot on the adult pop and country formats for two weeks each, while securing the sixth spot at Top 40 radio and the number two spot on the Hot 100 charts.
Along with royalties, Chapman also bagged accolades for her track, like a Country Music Association Award in the category of song of the year.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t join you all tonight. It’s truly an honor for my song to be newly recognized after 35 years of its debut. Thank you to the CMAs and a special thanks to Luke and all of the fans of Fast Car,” Chapman’s statement read, that she had sent to the CMAs host to announce.
