Katy Perry has announced her departure from the role of judge on American Idol, after seven seasons due to her upcoming projects.
While conversing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! On Monday, the Dark Horse crooner shared the news of her exit from the music show.
“I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol,” Perry confirmed.
She went on to say to Kimmel while making a wink, “I mean I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat, you what I’m saying Jimmy?”
On asking about other fellow judges' remarks upon her departing, Perry, 38, replied, “Well they’ll find out tonight!”
The E.T. songstress added further that the other judges on the show “know that I have some things planned for this year,” adding, “So it’s going to be a very, very exciting year … for all popstar girlies!”
She revealed about her co-judges Bryan and Richie that she “loved them” so much, and she also disclosed that they knew about her exit from the panel.
“They figure I’ve been in the studio for a while so they figured something is coming, Perry continued.
The Roar crooner revealed further, “I love the show so much but I wanna go and see the world and maybe bring new music.”
Kimmel didn’t hold back and roast Perry about who would be her possible successor, and about the coronation ceremony where she gives her crown.
“Let’s just say I’m creating space for my new wingspan," Perry teased in response.
It is pertinent to mention that she took over the judging panel accompanied by Bryan and Richie in 2018 following the revival of the show by ABC as it was originally aired on Fox till its 15 seasons.
