Taylor Swift is famous for making headlines either for her chart-topping hits, surprise engagement announcement with Travis Kelce, record-breaking tours or legal feuds.

Yes, the 35-year-old singer has also been involved in some notable legal battles, ranging from copyright infringement suits to defamation cases.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the most shocking and unbelievable legal feuds that Swift has been a part of.

Swift vs Braun

One of the notable legal cases was Swift’s fight with her former record label.

It began in 2019, when a controversial dispute emerged between the singer-songwriter and her former record label, Big Machine Records, its founder Scott Borchetta, and its new owner Scooter Braun.

According to filings, the dispute began over the ownership of the masters of her first six studio albums.

The private equity firm Shamrock Holdings acquired the masters in 2020, where upon the singer re-recorded and released four of the albums from 2021 to 2023 to exert control over her music catalog.

Ultimately, Swift acquired the masters from Shamrock in 2025.

In 2021, the Anti-Hero singer was sued by a theme park Evermore Park in Pleasant Grove, Utah, over infringed on her copyright-protected works, allegedly violating its "Evermore" trademark.

According to the park, Swift's album title with the same name affected its searchability and confused its consumers.

It also sought to prevent the singer's further use of the word, and demanded "statutory damages of $2 million per counterfeit mark per type of goods or services sold".

Things took a U-turn just after three weeks of Evermore’s cease-and-desist Swift's copyrights company—countersued the park for allegedly infringing her songs Love Story, You Belong with Me, and Bad Blood by regularly using them in their performances without a license.

Later in March 2021, both parties resolved and dismissed their respective suits without monetary settlement.

Swift vs Kimberly Marasco

This lawsuit involves feud between Marasco, a poet, and Swift.

The Florida-based poet sued the Cruel Summer singer in 2024 and again in 2025, alleging that her songs, such as Invisible String and Midnight Rain, copied her poetry.

According to the lawsuit, Swift’s songs contain lyrics and themes similar to Marasco poems, including "Delusional Reality," "Ordinary Citizen," and "Time."

The singer’s legal team in return argued that the similarities are based on common themes and ideas, and that Marasco's claims lack merit.

The case in which the poet is seeking $25 million in damages, is still ongoing.

Swift and sexual assault trial

The trial involved Swift and David Mueller, a former DJ, in which he filed for defamation against the Love Story hitmaker, alleging that she had him wrongfully terminated following an incident at a 2013 meet-and-greet.

Swift then counter-sued Mueller for battery and sexual assault, seeking a symbolic $1 in damages.

The jury, in the end, ruled in Swift's favour, awarding her $1 in damages.

Subpoenaed in ‘It ends with Us’ legal drama

Yes, the fiancée of Travis Kelce had been subpoenaed by Justin Baldoni's lawyers in the legal battle with Blake Lively (once best pal of Swift) over the filming of It Ends with Us.

The actor-director’s lawyers claimed that Lively used her connection to the pop star, referring to her as a "dragon" to pressure Baldoni during script discussions.

The Fearless singer’s representatives maintained that she was not involved in any creative decisions for the film. However, Baldoni's legal team later withdrew its subpoena against the singer.

Swift vs. Teresa La Dart

The Speak Now songstress was sued in 2022 by Dart, alleging that her album booklet infringed on her poetry book.

According to the Mississippi poet, the design of the book accompanying Swift's 2019 album, Lover, copied elements from her 2010 poetry book, also titled Lover.

The case was later dismissed in 2023 by a federal judge after La Dart voluntarily dropped the lawsuit.

Swift vs. Russell Greer

The songwriter sued the Back to December singer in 2016 for not accepting his unsolicited song submission.

The budding actor, songwriter and screenwriter alleged in his lawsuit that he spent years writing a song as a gift for Swift, however, her agents never passed it along to her.

According to Greer, he felt a negligence and filed a small claims lawsuit against Swift seeking monetary damages $7,000 for emotional harm.

The case was later dismissed with the judge stating that Swift doesn’t have a duty to accept Greer's song.

Swift vs. Andrew Azoulay

It’s a dispute by a real estate agent Andrew Azoulay who sued the Lavender Haze songstress in 2019.

According to the Douglas Elliman broker, he was due a commission for helping Swift's team find a Tribeca townhouse, which she ultimately purchased through another agent.

They had a "written exclusive promise" to represent her and were "wrongfully excluded" from the deal, as per Elliman, adding that thereby being denied a $1.1 million commission.

The Maroon singer’s team argued that Elliman had minimal involvement and never earned the commission and later the lawsuit was dismissed because an "informal email" between the brokerage and Swift's team was not considered a formal agreement outlining the material terms of a real estate brokerage contract.

Swift vs. Dan Dymtrow

It’s a prolonged battle between Swift and her former manager which began in 2007 over a breach of contract dispute related to her album Speak Now.

The My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys songstress countered that Dymtrow failed to get court approval for his management contract, which was legally required since the singer was a minor at the time, allowing her to disaffirm the agreement.

No trial date has been set for the latest lawsuit.

Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ copyright infringement lawsuit

Swift's copyright infringement lawsuit over her 2014 song Shake It Off revolves around a five-year legal battle in which she was sued by songwriters Sean Hall and Nathan Butler.

They alleged accused the Paper Rings singer of infringing on their 2001 song Playas Gon' Play.

The case was dismissed in December 2022 after the parties settled out of court.

Earlier this year, the Wildest Dreams singer reportedly initiated legal proceedings against Kanye West following a series of crude and unverified social media posts.

The posts were generated by the 48-year-old rapper, who made sexually explicit claims about the pop star and fellow pop stars such as Harry Styles and Justin Bieber.

According to Daily Mail, the 14 times Grammy-winner’s legal team sent West a cease-and-desist letter after he alleged in a since-deleted post that Swift had engaged in a sexual encounter with both Styles and Bieber.
