Iris Apfel, the fashion icon renowned for her distinctive style and vibrant designs passed away at the age of 102.

According to her spokesperson Stu Loeser, for her Apfel estate, confirmed the death to the New York Times and also that she took her last breath at her home in Palm Beach, Fla.

While conversing with PEOPLE on her 100 birthday celebration, she shared, "At 100, what else is there to do except sit around? I don't play bridge. I don't play golf. I love to work, and I really enjoy what I do."


The textile expert also opened up in 2022, "The world can be a gray place, so colors, patterns and textures are a way to bring some fun to life. Same with makeup — I want my lipsticks to be as bright and bold as possible."

Furthermore, over time, Apfel has gained recognition for her affinity for vibrant hues and her penchant for large, black-framed eyeglasses.

For her unique style statement, she shared with PEOPLE in 2015, "People would say to me, 'Why are they so large?' and I would say because they are good to see you," adding, "And that would shut them up."

Apfel, was born on August 29, 1921, in Queens, New York.
