New information has surfaced after a plane mysteriously went missing in Alaska with 10 people on board.

A Bering Air Caravan flight with nine passengers and one pilot was reported overdue around four pm on Thursday, February 6, while traveling from Unalakleet to Nome, as per the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

At a conference on February 07, Benjamin McIntyre-Coble, an officer with the U.S. Coast Guard’s Office of Incident Management, explained that around 03:18, the aircraft suddenly lost altitude and speed mid-flight. The reason behind this unusual occurrence still remains unknown to the authorities.

Another plane, with the mission of locating the missing aircraft, discovered something significant but officials haven’t confirmed what it is yet, Benjamin disclosed.

Rescue teams are still searching. However, authorities have revealed that all passengers were adults and also informed all passengers’ families by 9am on Friday, per the NVFD.

In a press conference, Lieutenant Ben Endres of Alaska State Troopers, shared a message assuring the passengers families of their commitment of helping them, stating, "To the families and loved ones of those who are missing, just know that we are using every available resource and working closely with the other teams, and every request we've made for federal or state assistance has been granted."

According to a U.S. Coast Guard news release, the aircraft was last detected near Norton Sound, roughly 30 miles southeast of Nome, on February 7.
