Elle Fanning gets emotional receiving 15-miute standing ovation at Cannes

Elle Fanning couldn’t hold her tears back while attending the Cannes Film Festival 2025.

The 27-year-old actress received a 15-minute standing ovation following the premiere of her upcoming movie, Sentimental Value on Wednesday, May 21.

This also marked the longest standing ovation at this year’s festival.

While receiving the appreciation, Fanning was seen wiping away her tears off of her face.

Sentimental Value, directed by Joachim Trier is a story that revolves around two sisters Nora and Agnes, who reconnects with their estranged father, Gustav, a once-renowned director, and navigate their complicated family dynamics.

In response to the huge round of applause, Trier addressed the crowd and mentioned that he was "very moved" by the appreciation the movie has received.

"What’s that Buñuel quote? 'I make films for my friends'? I feel you’re all my friends tonight," he added.

Following this news, it is being speculated that Sentimental Value could also emerge as the frontrunner to win the Palme d’Or which is the highest award given at the Cannes Film Festival.

To note, Sentimental Value starring Elle Fanning is slated for release on August 20, 2025.
