The Summer I Turned Pretty upcoming and most anticipated season will be testing 'Team Conrad vs. Team Jeremiah.'

Fans of the show based on the YA trilogy of novels by Jenny Han shouldn’t necessarily count on it sticking to its original story as the Prime Video series will be taking its own path.

During her candid conversation with Entertainment Weekly, on May 20, the 44-year-old author hinted that fans can expect to witness some changes in the third installment, regardless of how book three, which teases love shifts and heartbreaks, ended.

"There are surprises," she confirmed, adding "And there are things that aren’t exactly like the books."

Fans have stormed social media picking sides from the romantic love triangle, hoping Belly, portrayed by Lola Tung, chooses their 'team.'

Although the book was pretty clear about Isabel "Belly" Conklin’s choice, the actors Lola Tung, Christopher Briney and Gavin Casalegno have successfuly kept details about Belly's final decision under the wraps.

The 25-year-old actor, who portrays Jeremiah on the teen romance drama, made a bold statement claiming that the "die-hard fans" don’t really know "what’s coming," while the 22-year-old actress added that the audience are clueless about the upcoming twists.

Although the specific changes weren’t confirmed, Jenny revealed that everyone will be "satisfied" with how she chose to end things.

"A successful love triangle is one where, no matter what happens, people are going to be devastated and heartbroken," she stated. "If the answer feels really clear and easy, then there’s no real conflict. No matter what you do, someone’s going to be hurt by it."

The third and last season is set to air on July 16 and the promotions of the new installment has sparked some strong reactions from fans.

Some of the promotional photos of Lola as Belly in a chic yellow summer dress indicated a possibility of her not choosing anyone from the love triangle which garnered some mixed reactions.

"PRINCESS OF SUMMER IS COMING HOME" one fan penned.

However, another disappointedly wrote, "I think she's going to choose herself! Noooo. Team Jeremiah!"

Meanwhile some just argued over which team is better, Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah.

The Summer I Turned Pretty is a coming of age story about a young girl Belly Conklin, who spends the summer at Cousins beach. During her transformative summer, she tries to navigate love, family and tries to work on herself while being caught in a love triangle with two brothers.

Besides the trio, the series includes Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, David Iacono, Jackie Chung as the main cast.

The drama explores the bittersweet moments that define her path to adulthood.

Teenager Belly returns to Cousins beach for the summer with her family to spend quality time and reconnect with longtime family friends Jeremiah and Conrad Fisher.

Throughout the season, she navigates through the ups and downs of adolescence, and experiences excitement and confusion as she gets caught up in a love-triangle between the Fisher brothers.

Her emotions for the Fisher brothers deepen, which causes intense romantic moments with each of them

It is later revealed that Susannah, mother of the two brothers, is sick and has been diagnosed with Cancer. This creates some tensions between the two families, especially for Belly.

The debutante marks a significant moment on the show as Susannah’s illness, which she was trying to hide, comes to light, while Belly and her longtime crush Conrad finally get to share a tender moment as they dance.

Rundown of Season 2

The story continues with Belly returning for another summer by the beach with the same people except Susannah Fisher, played by Rachel Blanchard, who had unfortunately passed away from battling cancer.

Belly finds herself facing the consequences of her decisions and dealing with emotional challenges.

Towards the end of season one, Belly and Conrad finally share a kiss. However this also creates some unexpected turmoil between the group.

After Susannah’s passing, Aunt Julia is introduced who has inherited the beach house and plans to sell it. However, hearing this makes the group stand up to fight to keep the house that has held many memories over the years.

Towards the end of the second season, there was a scene where Belly lied on the bed while the two brothers slept on the floor on each of her sides.

The unique thing about that shot was that Belly was layed directly between the fisher brothers which symbolised her romantic conflict, showing that she is both literally and figuratively caught in the middle.

Her body language indicated that she was not comfortable, despite being in bed as she carries emotional weight of choosing one of them and hurting the other.

The right side, where the younger brother lied, was covered with cool and bluish lighting, while where the elder Fisher brother lied there was warm and orange lighting.

The lighting seemed to have a symbolism of its own. Where the cool lighting represented distance, a bleak future perhaps. However, the warm tone lights on the opposite side may indicate a likelihood of a bright future with the elder brother, as the choice of lighting represents comfort and warmth.

Belly is lit evenly in between, with both lights, showcasing her confusion and torn feelings between the two.

Fans eagerly await the approaching season, which is expected to pick up from the last season and has some surprises in-store for the viewers.

What can we expect in the third season?

Although in the final episode of the second installment, Belly chose Jeremiah, its not a guarantee a happy ending is in store for them in the final episode.

In the upcoming last season of the series, there could be more confusion for Lola's character as she tries to figure out what she wants and who she is as she still cares for both the brothers.

There is a possibility for the nature of both the brothers changing. One could become more mature and supportive, while the other might pull away or act jealous or possibly just choose to move on with his life. This will make things even more complicated for Belly.

With speculation over Belly's final choice taking social media by storm, there is a chance she can either choose one of the brother or none of them and focus on her growth as well, ending the love triangle once and for all.

There are many variables that can be considered for the series and the most anticipated season can go in any direction and surprise its fans but the viewers can expect a ride on an emotional rollercoaster  as there is a chance that either 'Team Conrad' or 'Team Jeremiah' fans might have to face some heartbreak.
