It is quite well known by this point that Meghan Markle considerably upset Queen Elizabeth with her choice of wedding attire when she married Prince Harry.

Having been a divorcee, the former actress’ choice of a white gown for her wedding to the Queen’s grandson went against the tradition of only virginal brides’ right to don the colour which Meghan wore.

Now, Harry’s cousin Maddison May Brudenell has taken a swipe at the ancient tradition with her own similar choice upon her second wedding.

The great-granddaughter of Lord Mountbatten, who married her second husband Bret Kapetanov in 2024, revealed the thoughts behind her decision in a detailed Instagram post.

In her caption, the royal quoted an excerpt from Ingrid Seward’s book My Mother and I, which revealed that in the late Queen’s view, “It was not appropriate for a divorcée getting remarried in church to look quite so flamboyantly virginal.”

“Not written about me but about Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex , needless to say when this article was flung in my face last week, I didn’t bat an eyelid,” the caption continued.

She further revealed her mother, Edwina Hicks’ words of advice to her, who echoed similar sentiments as the former British monarch.

“Why was I unsurprised by reading this article? Because my mother, our late queen’s god daughter , had said exactly the same to me,” she wrote.

Moreover, the post also featured Maddison’s veil being looked after by her mother on the occasion of her wedding last October.

Concluding her statement with a note of sympathy for royals like Meghan Markle, Maddison May Brudenell admitted, “I am blessed to have had that freedom, the pressures on the immediate Royal family are extreme and we must pray for them.”

To recall, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were married on May 19, 2018, while the ceremony took place at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
