OpenAI expected to launch GPT-5 model as early as August
OpenAI is preparing to launch its highly anticipated GPT-5 artificial intelligence (AI) model as soon as August.
According to The Verge , the new system is expected to represent a significant leap forward in OpenAI’s AI capabilities, combining multiple models and technologies to create a more versatile and integrated platform.
Rather than functioning as a single model, the upcoming GPT-5 will reportedly consist of a collection of specialised systems working together.
This approach is intended to enable a broader range of tasks and improve the model’s ability to adapt to different types of user input.
The development signals OpenAI’s shift toward a more modular architecture, allowing its AI tools to be more flexible and powerful.
It is worth noting that the OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, previously hinted in February that GPT-5 would incorporate elements from the company’s o-series of models, specifically the o3 model, along with other proprietary technologies.
Altman noted that the ultimate goal is to unify the o-series and GPT-series under a single, streamlined AI offering that can leverage a full suite of tools and capabilities.
While a launch in early August is currently expected, OpenAI’s rollout timelines have historically been subject to change.
Several factors, such as technical hurdles, server infrastructure limits, or competitive developments in the AI space, could impact the release date.
