Queen Camilla celebrated her 78th birthday on July 17 this year, and the UK joined in on her celebrations.

However, a union flag which was flown at a civil service building in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, to mark the Queen’s birthday, was stolen in what is being treated as a serious offence.

Following the theft, an Irish tricolour flag was erected instead of the Union Jack, and an investigation broke out.

According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the authorities are looking at the case as a “sectarian hate crime”.

While the Department for Communities, who hoisted the flag in the first place, further reported about the “unauthorised” removal of the flag from its offices.

Though they did not state a confirmation regarding the news of an Irish flag replacing the stolen English banner.

On the other hand, the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) also took notice of the theft which occurred on Queen Camilla’s birthday and condemned the “idiotic act”.

“Those involved should be dealt with by the law,” said Gary Middleton, an MLA from the nearby constituency.
