When love meets art: Hollywood directors who teamed up with their significant others
Find out times when directors cast their partners in films

In the buzzing world of Hollywood, collaboration often extends beyond the workplace and into personal relationships.
Many directors have cast their real-life partners in films, blending love and creativity on screen.
Here are some notable couples who turned their partnerships into cinematic collaborations:
Greta Gerwig & Noah Baumbach
The directing power couple, who have been together since 2011, have teamed up many times since.
They co-wrote Noah’s directorial efforts Frances Ha and Mistress America, which Greta also starred in.
She also appeared in Naoh’s film Greenberg and White Noise, and has an uncredited role in The Meyerowitz Stories.
John Krasinski & Emily Blunt
The iconic acting couple, who began dating in 2008, worked on their first project together a decade later.
John co-starred with his wife, Emily Blunt, in A Quiet Place, which he also directed.
"I saw very clearly what an incredible talent she was, and she moved me every single day," he said of his wife, adding that the film was "the best compliment of my career.”
John returned to direct the sequel in 2021.
Lily Collins & Charlie McDowell
The recently married couple, who tied the knot in September 2021, collaborated on a 2002 thriller called Windfall, which Lilly also produced.
"Honestly, it was so easy working together. It was great, and I'm really, really proud of the movie and I'm proud of him.” Lilly told Vogue Australia.
Zach Braff & Florence Pugh
The now-broken-up couple initially met on the set of Zach’s short film In the Time It Takes to Get There in 2019, which Zach directed and Florence starred in.
Shortly after, they began dating and decided to collaborate again for a feature film in 2022, A Good Person.
"I am so lucky to know you. And the world is so lucky they get to witness your incredible talent," the filmmaker wrote on Instagram for Florence’s birthday in January 2022.
Maggie Gyllenhaal & Peter Sarsgaard
Maggie featured her husband, Peter, in her 2012 directorial debut, The Lost Daughter.
"I really have respect for him. It's such a pleasure to direct him,” Maggie gushed over Peter.
She added, “I could not have made this film without that. There are so many examples of women gracefully, intelligently supporting their husbands and there are so few examples of men doing that for their wives. He's a really incredible example of that.”
