Twitch is under fire after disturbing footage showed popular streamer Emiru being assaulted by a fan during a meet and greet at TwitchCon San Diego on Friday.

The video, widely shared online shows a man rushing toward Emiru whose real name is Emily-Beth Schunk and attempting to grab her face and kiss her.

The 27-year-old visibly recoiled as her personal security guard intervened and pushed the man away.

Emiru criticised Twitch’s response, writing on X, “Yesterday, the man who assaulted me was allowed to cross multiple barriers at TwitchCon and even in front of another creator’s meet and greet to grab me and my face and try to kiss me.”

She added, “The security in the clip who reacts is my own security … However, there were at least 3 or 4 other TwitchCon security staff in the area who did not react and let the guy walk away.”

Twitch later stated that the individual was permanently banned from the event and the platform, saying, “We immediately blocked this individual from returning to the TwitchCon premises, and they are banned indefinitely from Twitch.”

However, Emiru called the company’s statement a “blatant lie,” claiming the man “was allowed to walk away” and only caught “hours after he attacked me.”

The streamer said she is “obviously shaken up” and plans to press charges. The incident follows growing safety concerns for female creators at TwitchCon events.
