Did Ana de Armas and Tom Cruise ever date? Inside their rumored relationship

Tom Cruise and Ana de Armas are keeping things severely friendly, despite months of speculation about their relationship.

The Mission: Impossible star and the Ballerina actress were first spotted together in February and continued to be seen out and about throughout the summer.

In July, the two were even photographed holding hands during a getaway in Vermont, fueling dating rumors.

Now, amid talk of a split, a source close to de Armas, tells PEOPLE that Cruise, is simply a "dear friend and mentor" and she "very much enjoys spending time with him."

The source added, "She's single, though and has been for a while, she stays in touch with Tom and they still have an upcoming movie project that she's looking forward to."

Though the pair never officially confirmed a romantic relationship as their closeness was often noted.

Back in July, an insider shared that de Armas "really enjoys spending time with him" and that they had become "incredibly close," with Cruise being "a huge support, both personally and professionally."

In May, the actress spoke to Women’s Wear Daily about their upcoming action project with Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie.

“Obviously, everyone knows I'm working with Tom Cruise,” she said, adding, “It’s another level that just keeps setting the bar higher and higher. But it's so much fun.”

Tom Cruise has also praised the Ghosted star, calling her “very, very talented” and “a great actress” during red carpet interviews.

In June, Ana de Armas told Variety, “It is very special that someone like him is supporting Ballerina.”
