5 shocking claims Elon Musk has made about ChatGPT

What began as a shared dream between two Silicon Valley’s big names has turned into one of tech’s most dramatic rivalries.

Elon Musk and Sam Altman, once partners in founding OpenAI back in 2015, are now bitter competitors, with Musk publicly accusing Altman’s company of betrayal, greed, and even endangering humanity.

Musk left OpenAI in 2018 after a reported clash over its direction, and ever since, he’s been throwing verbal grenades at Altman’s most famous creation — ChatGPT.

From lawsuits to tweets, here are five of Musk’s most shocking claims about the world’s most popular chatbot.

1. OpenAI betrayed its mission

Musk insists OpenAI abandoned its founding goal of being a non-profit organisation serving humanity.

He has accused the company of becoming “a closed-source, maximum-profit arm of Microsoft” and even sued Altman over it.

OpenAI fired back by releasing old emails showing Musk himself had supported going for-profit.

2. ChatGPT is biased and “woke”

Musk has repeatedly slammed ChatGPT as politically biased, saying it’s been “trained to be woke.”

He launched his own rival, Grok, claiming it would be “truth-seeking” and free from bias, though critics argue Grok has its own misinformation problems.

3. AI could destroy humanity

Musk has warned for years that AI could be “more dangerous than nuclear weapons.”

He estimates a 10–20% chance it could wipe out humanity, a prediction that makes even his rocket explosions seem tame.

4. OpenAI’s AGI obsession is reckless

Musk has accused OpenAI of chasing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) purely for profit, calling it a “noxious danger.”

5. Sam Altman’s betrayal was Shakespearean

In a lawsuit, Musk’s lawyers accused Altman of “Shakespearean deceit,” claiming he manipulated Musk into co-founding OpenAI only to hijack it later.

The feud reached soap-opera levels after Altman’s brief ousting and reinstatement at OpenAI.
