League of Legends star ‘Faker’ says T1 would beat Elon Musk’s Grok AI team
Faker has expressed confidence that his team, T1, could defeat AI opponent proposed by Elon Musk
The popular South Korean esports star Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, the iconic midlaner for T1, has expressed confidence that his team could defeat an artificial intelligence (AI) opponent proposed by Elon Musk in a potential exhibition match next year.
Speaking at a press conference in Seoul, Faker welcomed the increasing interest from major technology companies in competitive gaming.
However, he made it clear that he believes human players still hold a meaningful advantage over AI, at least in the near future.
“It’s encouraging to see AI and big tech companies paying attention to our field. Chess may have already fallen to AI, but I believe we can win the match next year,” Faker said.
His remarks followed a post Musk shared in November on X (formerly Twitter), where the CEO of xAI revealed plans for a 2026 showdown between its next-generation model, Grok 5, and T1.
Musk described the Korean organisation as the best human League of Legends team after its recent League of Legends World Championship triumph.
T1 quickly acknowledged the proposal, posting an image of Faker with the message, “We are ready.”
Although no official details about the format or rules have been confirmed, the idea has sparked comparisons to famous human-versus-AI moments, including AlphaGo defeating Lee Sedol and IBM’s Deep Blue overcoming world chess champion Garry Kasparov.
