Andrew to lose final military title: UK Defence Minister
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor will be stripped of his remaining honour soon
Andrew is set to be stripped of a final title from the British Navy, according to Defence Minister John Healey.
Healey confirmed on Sunday that the former Duke of York will lose the honourary rank of a naval vice admiral, which he had received in 2015, and was allowed to retain despite surrendering other military titles in 2022.
He stated that the government has generally followed the monarchy’s guidance in the matter and “in defence, it’s exactly the same”, during an interview on BBC One - Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.
“We’ve seen Andrew surrender the honorary positions he’s had throughout the military, and guided again by the King, we are working now to remove that last remaining title of vice-admiral that he has,” added Healey.
While regarding Andrew’s service medals, the state’s secretary for defence revealed, “I don’t have an update for you on that, but just as with his vice-admiral rank and title, we would be guided by the decisions the King makes.”
Andrew was previously stripped of his title as the Duke of York and a prince after discussions with King Charles in October, due to his disgrace in the renewed controversy related to the late sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
