A multi-vehicle collision on New York City’s Manhattan Bridge left 16 people injured on Friday morning, following a crash involving a bus and a car.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:15am on the lower level of the bridge in the Manhattan-bound direction, causing significant disruption and a large-scale emergency response.

A spokesperson for the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) confirmed that the collision resulted in six people being transported to local hospitals.

One individual was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a serious injury, though the specific nature of the condition has not been disclosed.

Four others were also moved to Bellevue for minor injuries, and a fifth person was treated at NYU Langone-Tisch Hospital for a minor ailment.

An additional 10 individuals were evaluated by emergency medical services at the scene; however, they declined further hospital transportation.

The identities of those involved remain unknown, and the FDNY has reported no fatalities. While the physical wreckage on the bridge was clear, the underlying cause of the accident is still under investigation.

The New York Police Department has been contacted for further comment on the circumstances leading up to the crash.

For commuters and families affected, the afternoon was marked by the sudden chaos typical of a city transit accident, yet there is relief that the toll was not more severe.

The bridge's lower level faced closures as crews worked to clear the scene, leaving many to reflect on the daily risks within the city's bustling transport network.
